I have all of our summer things ready for the summer. I created a Summer Things to do List for the kids. Here is where I got that idea from: http://thebuentes.blogspot.com/2012/06/ready-for-summer-diy-project.html?showComment=1339391253608

I also have my son in quite a bit of activities this summer, so to get this all organized I printed out everything onto a calendar and I signed up for a free application called Cozi that I am in LOVE with it. It keeps everyone's activities/schedules together in one place to keep the entire family organized. My husband and I both downloaded the free app and I entered all of the activities and events that we are attending on the computer and it updates automatically to our app on the phone. I really like the app especially because if your child has the same class every Thursday or even every other Thursday, you are able to choose the different options for repeating the event on the calendar and you can also put a stop date for that particular activity.

You can go to www.cozi.com to see what I'm talking about. I have not had a chance to use all of its features but the calendar is great. It also shows a recipe database to be able to setup your own menu plan. I also started doing a weekly menu plan for the family, which has worked out amazingly well. I will write about the weekly menu plan soon!Mom's Survival Kithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15738313227353640060noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359759913303257860.post-2053735797832907582013-05-05T11:51:00.001-07:002013-05-05T11:51:39.309-07:00Teacher Appreciation GiftI gave the teachers a form to fill out shown in the earlier post, so I can get idea of what they like.

Here is a picture what I came up with from what they wrote on the form. I found the pink polka dot insulated lunch totes for $5 at HomeGoods. Then I put the teacher's favorite candy along with a bookmark that I made and a favorite item of theirs from the list. The bookmark and tags I found on Pinterest.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mom's Survival Kithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15738313227353640060noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359759913303257860.post-85760058869835189962013-04-27T17:12:00.000-07:002013-04-27T17:15:29.552-07:00Teacher Appreciation Day GiftsTeacher Appreciation Day is May 7. I started thinking about this last week and in the midst of trying to figure out what am I going to give this time....I remembered seeing a form that I could give the teachers to figure out what it is that they like.

So, I went to pintrest and looked up Teacher Appreciation. I am a big believer in giving gifts that people would actually use because I personally am not a collector of things that do not have a purpose or use by me or by a family member. Hence, I do not like to give party favors that are going to be a waste for someone to take home and never be used.

There are quite a few forms online that you can print out and give to your teacher, but this is the one that I liked and used.

When you click on the above picture, you will also find some teacher appreciation gift ideas as well as a link to download this form.

I do have a few teacher friends and I do know that they personally don't like getting gifts that just keep collecting around the house and really don't have any use or purpose. Even if you can not afford to give an extravagant gift, they have such cute ideas out there that you can do. You can bring them a cup of their favorite coffee, a bag of their favorite candy, or even just a homemade card from your child to the teacher. It's the thought that counts the most.

I haven't decided what I am going to give them just yet, but once I do I will post it. Good Luck with your Teacher Appreciation gifts this year.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Years. Did you make any New Years resolutions? When the New Year comes every year, I always tend to make some resolutions that I want to do and it so happens that most of them I never tend to stick with. By the time the year is over, I never end up doing what I wanted to when the year began. I am hoping to break that habit by writing everything down this year and putting up somewhere where I have to see it everyday. I really hope that I can keep my resolutions this year.

Did you make any resolutions this year and if so, what are you going to do to keep your resolution?Mom's Survival Kithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15738313227353640060noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359759913303257860.post-26298597517773396782012-12-04T19:40:00.001-08:002012-12-04T19:46:23.229-08:00Soccer Themed 2nd Birthday Party

My son was turning 2 and he doesn't like bounce houses or inflatables period. Our son really likes to play any type of sport, so after looking into places that do parties, we decided to do a Soccer Party. We had a Soccer Themed Birthday Party for my son's 2nd Birthday. The hall we rented didn't allow us to put anything on the walls and it was a small room, so we had 1 main table decorated. We had Chocolate Cake, Vanilla cupcakes, Grapes, Popcorn, and Chips. We thought that it would be fitting to give water bottles as the party favor to each child.

The Soccer Printables were from SIMONEmadeit. The cake was from Maureen's Bakery. The black and white striped paper cups that the chips were in was from a Etsy Shop Lollipops & Pussycats. The green and white striped cups for the grapes were from a Etsy Shop Sweet Party Shop. The White popcorn boxes were from a Etsy Shop Party Delights and I put the printable wrapper around it.

At the beginning of the party, we had a Facepainting person come in that also made Balloon animals for the kids. Facepainting and Ballon animals by Face Painting Houston. We had an outdoor area where we set up a bubble machine, which was rented from Richards Party Rentals. We also rented a Popcorn machine from Balloon 'n Novelty.
We had asked our guests not to bring a gift for the birthday boy, but instead bring a gift for a special child with cancer. All of the gifts were donated to the Cancer Center at the Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, TX. Friday & Saturday July 13-14 and In-store Purchase ONLY! Save $25 when you purchase 2 boxes (88 count or higher) of Pampers Diapers. I went today to see if this is really a deal or not, well I came out with 2 boxes of Pampers Diapers with 202 diapers in each box and the total for each box was $33(after the discount). That makes the cost per diaper 16 cents. Today I looked into what the normal cost per diaper is, and for Pampers Baby Dry (the kind of diaper I usually buy) is 20 cents per diaper. That means that I saved about $17 with this deal. Don't miss out on this great deal if you use Pampers Diapers!
This is open to children of all ages. If your child can not read, you can read to them. The Program starts at the end of May till the end of July. They have rewards ranging from 5 books get a Bookmark and 20 books get a Trophy. My 4 year old knows what trophies are, so he is pretty excited to start this reading club and win the Trophy.

Reading Clubs are fun for the children and it keeps them reading during the summer. Developing a love for reading is very important. I believe that any child that develops a love for reading should do well when it comes to school and having to read for the different subjects. If your local Library is not doing a summer reading club, then it is very easy for you to do one for your children on your own. You can create a chart where it shows the different rewards they will get if they read a certain number of books during the summer. Here is a free printable chart that you can use with your kids this summer.
We bought a bookcase from One Step Ahead that holds plenty of books. This bookcase of ours is totally full. Our children love that they can go up to the bookcase and choose their own book on a daily basis.
I bought it for my older son a few summers ago and it didn't work so well for us. I am not sure if we got a bad one or not and I do not know of anyone that has gotten it. For us, it didn't work and instead all it did was the liquid all leaked out and no bubbles for my son to enjoy :( Needless to say, I am not going to be buying another one of these.

In the past year, I have bought something from that website 2 things and I got exactly what I was expecting. Both of the items I bought were kids/baby items and I was pleased with what I bought. I like the idea of Etsy mostly because you know that when you are buying these items, you are helping someone pay their bills, pay for their children's uniforms, etc.

The quote that I love the best that basically tells the story of all of the sellers on Etsy is....

"When you buy from a small mom and pop business, you are not helping a CEO buy a third vacation home. You are helping a little girl get dance lessons, a little boy get his team jersey, a mom or dad put food on the table, a family pay a mortgage, or a student pay for college."

So, if you haven't ever bought anything from Etsy before....before look for something on other websites, you might want to try looking for it on Etsy.Mom's Survival Kithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15738313227353640060noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359759913303257860.post-68894355971452744062012-05-04T11:49:00.002-07:002012-05-04T11:54:56.009-07:00The busy, busy lives we live!Every day seems to be a busy day full of things that need to be done. From the moment we wake up, we are thinking about what we need to do today. From dropping off the kids, getting to work, meetings, making sure all of the kids activities are done, grocery shopping, dinner, etc. There is always something or another that is going on. There are family things, business things, and social things that are happening on a daily basis.

In the midst of all of this daily chaos, there are times that we forget to take care of something important or an errand that we were supposed to run and forgot about, etc.....
Yesterday, there was a father in Sugar Land that dropped off his two older kids at an elementary school and went to a conference and got home at 5:30pm, when his wife asked him about their 7 month old baby. That is when he relized that he had taken the 7 month old baby with him and forgot the baby in the car the entire day and sadly to say, the baby had died.

38 children die every year from being left alone in a car. The government reports that in 52% of the cases, the child was simply forgottten.
I once saw a story about this on the Oprah Show and the person that forgot her child in the car was a Prinicipal of a school. I do not know the details in the case of the Sugar Land man yesterday, but sometimes it happens to people that end up taking their child to drop him or her off at a daycare and it is not their normal routine. In the case of the Principal, it was not her normal routine that morning to drop off the baby....so once she left home she started thinking about what all she needed to do that day and in turn forgot the baby.

Child Safety experts have tips to prevent this from happening:
1) Put something that you must have with you, such as a purse or briefcase, in the backseat next to the child that forces you to check the backseat.
2) Put a stuffed animal in the front seat as a reminder that your child is in the backseat.
This is such a sad story that we need to stop and think about the busy world we live in.Mom's Survival Kithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15738313227353640060noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359759913303257860.post-48359906055744160262012-05-03T11:50:00.002-07:002012-05-03T11:51:49.523-07:00Stamp Out HungerOn Saturday, May 12 you can help Stamp Out Hunger. The National Association of Letter Carriers is having their annual Food drive on May 12. All you have to do is collect and bag non-perishable food items and leave it by the mailbox for the Mailman to take it to a local food bank or pantry. It is very simple.

I went to Kroger yesterday and they had pre-bagged food items for Stamp Out Hunger and all I had to do was choose a bag and pay for it and they take care of the rest. It was very easy. I am not sure what other grocery stores are participating, but the Kroger I went to was.
He was super excited when I bought the tickets and now as time as passed he is still excited but he doesn't truly understand how close it is now. The Fresh Beat Band is a show that comes on Nick Jr. and he has always been into music since he was a baby, so he really loves to sing and dance to all of their music. I already know that he's going to have a blast and to add to his experience I got him some glow in the dark sticks for the show and I made him a Fresh Beat Band tshirt to wear that day. He hasn't seen any of this yet.

I personally think that the Tshirt came out great! My son's favorite color is green, so I bought the tshirt from Wal-mart. They have inexpensive plain colored tshirts at Hobby Lobby or Wal-mart. I bought Tshirt Iron On Transfer paper from Office Depot...I got the one for Dark Colored Tshirts. I printed the image from my computer and printer that I have at home and the Iron transfer directions are really easy to do. And whaallaaa....a perfect tshirt for kids!

This is a great idea for Kids Birthday party favors as well. For my son's 2nd Birthday, we did a Mickey Mouse theme and I made tshirts for each child to wear at his party...so every kid had the same shirt on....and again, this was very simple as well....for these tshirts I used the Iron On Transfer paper for Light Colored Tshirts, because I got everyone white tshirts.....Tshirts for toddlers are cheap online....and my son's birthday is in October so I was able to find Tshirts really cheap online. As you can see, I put a Mickey Mouse with every child's name on it and the back was the same for everyone.
It makes it easy for you to put your purse and bags and diaperbags on, instead of trying to carry all of that and push the stroller around. I know that there are lots of different stroller hooks out there and I can not speak for how those work and don't work, but these work well. I have used them for both of my children and haven't had a problem yet.
The concept is that if you have immediate family or relatives that are out of town for work or live out of town, etc.....well, this website lets you create an account and everyone you know that's out of town can log on to this account and choose a book to read to the children. They have to have a webcam, Iphone or Ipad in order to record themselves on the website.

My children got their first story read to them from one of their aunts and they love it, because they feel like their aunt is talking to them right then and there, as if they are on skype and at the end of the story, my son says that he really liked the book and that he wanted to read it again.

You can go to the website and look at the different plans they have and they also have a video you can view of what the actual recording will look like.
Nowadays, there isn't a kid in sight that doesn't touch their mom and dad's cell phone or their Ipad. Every child is familiar with using an Iphone and an Ipad. My children are both young, therefore I have an Otterbox case for both my Iphone and for the Ipad. These cases are nice and tough. Nothing can completely always protect your Iphone and Ipad, but the Otterbox does a great job. The cases come in different colors to give it a different look and they also come in black.
